What is holistic skincare?

By Anisa Noor

These days it seems the term ‘holistic’ is surfacing everywhere, and when we see it in the context of skin care, it is sometimes used interchangeably with “organic”,  “all-natural, or “spiritual.” I’ve even heard of holistic skin products being “formulated with divine consciousness.” But what do we mean when we say that we at NUR Skincare have a holistic philosophy?

Let’s start by defining the term holistic. Based on the dictionary definition,

hōˈlistik/

adjective

PHILOSOPHY
· characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

· MEDICINE
characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease.

Staying true to the definition, the NUR Skincare philosophy is based on seeing the individual and all of his/her skin functionality and condition, including its aesthetic structure, as a part of the whole of that person. While we do treat skin topically, we work within the framework of whole body healing to customize a unique solution to optimizing the skin’s functionality as well as aesthetic structure.

I often refer to the skin as our filtration system – which it is. Imagine running a machine that has a filter 24 hours/day. If that filter is clogged, it is no longer operating with optimal efficiency – but unclogging it is not as easy as cleaning it up. As anyone with any skin condition knows, there are a multitude of factors that must be taken into account when dealing with any kind of skin condition – one’s hormonal balance, age, diet, lifestyle, deficiencies, to name just a few, are all involved in a delicate dance in order for our skin to perfectly do its job.

Our approach to skincare is by optimizing the efficiency with which your filter, i.e., your skin, operates. In doing so, we are also improving its physical structure and thereby improving its aesthetic appearance. As I always say to my clients, “beauty is a by-product of good skin health” and for us, improving skin health is priority.

We tackle skin conditions by creating individualized solutions with a multi-layered approach. We not only treat the skin topically using the most advanced, scientifically proven and research-based technological methods, but also refer clients to a network of healers and practitioners to improve their overall health and tackle the underlying condition that causes their skin issues in the first place. Using this “power cocktail” approach to improving skin, we find that our clients often see long-lasting or even permanent effects on their skin.
